The process

I really like the process of block construction. I feel relaxed and productive at the same time. I love to just make multiples of the same kind of block over and over. Part of me feels like I would do really well in a sweat shop!

The picture below is of some pink blocks I made a few years ago while living on Main Street in Bountiful. I don't really remember making all of these little blocks, but I have a stack of probably 200 or so. It makes me laugh at myself that I made so many of these little blocks with no end project in site. My sister loves pink quilts so I've been working in setting some of these with plain white to make them pop! I'll show some pics of that project later!

Happy New Years!

As I bid farewell to 2011 I resolve to blog more, to share more, to document more, to take more pictures and to share my passion for quilting and fabric more! Happy New Years 2011!

Pink and Black

Who doesn't love the combination of pink and black. It's a timeless combination. I've been digging into my black and white stash. First to make an all black and white quilt for my niece's wedding. Then it was a black and white and red all over quilt for my sister for a Christmas gift. Then I found a bunch of pink scraps from an old project I'd been working on. So I've been doing a funky log cabin with them. I've also loved the log cabin process. It's been great. Check back for updates!!

Quilt explorations

So, i've always wanted to make Quilts as Art. I decided to try my hand at art quilts this month. I heard about a fundraiser benefitting the Utah Aids Foundation. One of my good friends Adam usually goes to the benefit, and i had him in mind when deciding to make a quilt. Each year there is a silent auction and Adam commented to me that every year he looks over and there's some "quilt" that just doesn't fit. I'm sure that each year someone goes to a lot of trouble and spends a lot of time and energy making a quilt for the silent auction, but it probably wasn't targeted towards the right audience.

So, i decided to try my hand at making something a little different. My idea was to use a black/white theme with a touch of red... and thought this would be fun... but the more i thought about it... i just thought - i need to work with color! I love black and white ... there is something striking and beautiful about black and white... But, i had a friend say to me once... Life isn't black and white... there are colors for a reason! Ever since then, i have embraced the many beautiful colors of the rainbow.

And its just the same with people. People are different. there are many variations. and each one has something to offer. will we give them the chance to shine?

so,i've been working on this quilt all week... i'm going to put it all together tomorrow and i think it will be something that someone will want to hang on their wall as art.
